Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2016/17: Virat Singh, Manoj Tiwary Steer East Zone To A Win Over Star-Studded North Zone 1

Jharkhand batsman Virat Singh and East Zone skipper Manoj Tiwary smashed half-centuries to steer East Zone to a big win over star-studded North Zone, to end their tourney with just one win in four games the members of the Northern part of the country played in the tournament.

After winning the toss, East Zone decided to field on a changed track which has always been supportive of the team chasing the target. North Zone had a decent start as the first wicket partnership of discarded openers Shikhar Dhawan and Gautam Gambhir shared 31 runs for the first wicket before Dhawan was dismissed by Pritam Das.

Gautam Gambhir followed him after a distance of 16 runs. The third wicket partnership of 38 runs between Unmukt Chand and Yuvraj Singh did see this team working ahead towards a big total but team stumbled after the dismissal of Unmukt Chand and lost wickets at regular intervals but somehow managed to put 159 runs on the board.

East Zone, in a chase to this target, had a poor start as Pradeep Sangwan dismissed Shreevats Goswami on the very first ball to get a dream start for the team. Ishank Jaggi too went behind him after a matter of 11 balls but then came to the moment when Virat Singh, who is playing his first game of the tournament, along with skipper Manoj Tiwary steered the team, to register a big win over North Zone. They were taking risks and were playing their shots, putting the bowling line-up under pressure.

Their impact can be known by the fact that Harbhajan Singh went for 9.00 runs/over whereas Mohit Sharma spent runs at an economy rate of 8.33/over.

Their unbeaten partnership of 149 help East Zone just crush North Zone to register their third win in the tournament.
