BCCI Joint Secretary Moves To Supreme Court, Accuses CoA Of Flouting Court's Order 1

Amitabh Chaudhary, the BCCI joint secretary, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court, accusing the Committee of Administrators (CoA) of flouting the court’s order. The BCCI official, in his plea, has said the Vinod Rai-led panel sent its member, Vikram Limaye, and BCCI chief executive, Rahul Johri, to the International Cricket Council’s meeting earlier this month which contradicted the court’s orders.

The apex court, on January 30, had made it clear that Chaudhary and treasurer, Anirudh Choudhary, should attend along with Limaye. However, Johri went against the court’s order and wrote to the International Cricket Council (ICC) that he and Limaye would attend the meet. Johri was instructed by the CoA to write to the ICC to inform them about the BCCI’s representatives.

Not only that, the CoA has also taken over the running of the BCCI’s affairs. The Supreme Court had instructed it to oversee all the functions of the cricket board and had tasked  Chaudhary with the responsibility of supervising the board’s functioning.

“Act and conduct of the committee runs contrary to the fabric of the orders passed by this court,” the petition stated

“The committee of administrators has usurped the functions of the treasurer and joint secretary. This borders on contempt of the court’s orders,” it added.

The petition further stated the administrators have passed on the powers of the office-bearers to Johri. The four-member member panel of the interim administrators was appointed by the Supreme Court on January 30 to oversee the administration of the BCCI until fresh elections were held.
