Zlatan And Smalling Take Trophy Jibe At Liverpool After League Cup Victory 1

Sunday was a historic day in the glorious history of the Old Trafford outfit Manchester United.

Though the League Cup is not the greatest trophy to boast about, this trophy puts the Red Devils on level with rivals Liverpool as the most successful football clubs in England.

The Anfield outfit has 41 major honours till date and Manchester United lifted their 41st major honour under Jose Mourinho in his first ever season in charge at the Old Trafford.

The Red Devils were not the better team for most of the game against Southampton at Wembley but a brace from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, including an 86th-minute winner and goal from Jesse Lingard, were enough for them to lift the trophy even as Gabbiadini gave them a scare at either side of half time.

Jose Mourinho was a happy man and so were a number of Manchester United players, who posted a lot of stuff all over social media.

The Swedish international Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who scored his 25th goal of the season in all competitions in this victory spoke after the game and decided to take a small jibe at Liverpool.

Speaking to the media, Zlatan revealed that he was happy to win 2 trophies in the 10 months he was at the club.

We are winning. After seven months I have two trophies with this club,’ Ibrahimovic said following the win.

He went on to take a jibe at the Reds who have just lifted one trophy in almost a decade.

‘There are other clubs that didn’t win for 10 years. I’ve won what they won in 10 years, so I’m happy with that,” he added.

The League Cup 4 years ago is the only trophy Liverpool have won since the turn of the decade and other United players also joined in this fun.

Chris Smalling, the English defender who played a major role in United’s victory on the night took it to Instagram to follow up after Zlatan.

He wrote:

‘Shout out my man Zlatan Ibrahimovic …Liverpool, WATCH THE THRONE,’ Smalling wrote on Instagram immediately after the titanic clash.

Here is his post:

Social media platforms of both the clubs have been busy with debates as to who won more trophies in the history but at the moment, Liverpool have no chance of improving on their tally this season while Manchester United are also progressing well in the Europa League and also in the FA Cup.

But do you think it was necessary for Zlatan and Smalling to take a jibe at Liverpool?
