A day after clearing his stance on his controversial tweet that was allegedly aimed at Gurmehar Kaur, former India batsman Virender Sehwag has claimed his message was an ‘attempt to be facetious’ and not bullying the 20-year-old Delhi University student.
Gurmehar, daughter of Kargil martyr Captain Mandeep Singh, had posted a picture on her Facebook profile after the violent clashes in Ramjas College. In the photo, she holds a placard which reads, “I am a student from Delhi University. I am not afraid of ABVP. I am not alone. Every student of India is with me. #StudentsAgainstABVP”.
But Sehwag, who is known for his witty and sarcastic comments on social media, trolled the student by referring to a video she shared last year, saying ‘Pakistan didn’t kill my father, the war killed him’.
The former India opener posted an image of himself holding a placard, which read: “I didn’t two score triple centuries, my bat did.”
Sehwag’s tweet went viral and he received widespread criticism for his sly comment. Since then, the former Indian cricketer has been trying to come out clean from the whole episode. On Tuesday (February 28), he had said his tweet was not intended for Kaur and now he has given another statement, saying:“My tweet was attempt to be facetious rather than one to bully anyone over their opinion;Agreement/disagreement wasn’t even factor.
