Rain, rain and rain. If it was somebody, rather something’s influence that dominated the match from the very beginning of the day, it was the dear rain. The rain might be a pain for the home side Afros but was definitely a boon for the Windies. It served as a blessing in disguise for the West Indies team who do not find anything fruitful in the match from very beginning, at least after the first innings of the match being played down. After engaging almost the first half of the day’s play, the Rain God somehow felt to be pleased and content. The West Indies came down to save the trail of some 10 to 12 runs with 8 wickets in hand, but went down soon after like a house of cards. Batsmen Leon Johnson scored 44 runs off 76 deliveries, Shivnaraine Chanderpaul scored 50 runs off 113 balls and all rounder Marlon Samuels scored 74 off 150 balls. However their mighty efforts did fail in their actual cause and ended in putting up a team total of just 215 runs for the loss of all wickets as the skipeer cum wicket keeper Dinesh Ramdin, Jerome Taylor and Suliemann Benn went back to the dressing room scoring nothing of use but just ducks. Dale Steyn took three vital wickets, Morne Morkel seized two wickets and the mystic prodigy debutant Simon Harmer bagged four of the lot, while Vernon Philander and Stiian van Zyl remained wicketless. Coming on to the crease to bat, South Africa had just only a mere not so chase able total of 124 runs displaying in the adjacent score board. But the opener Alviro Petersen continues to mesmerize the cricket followers with inadvertent ill form as he went dismissed for nothing but a pitiable duck, being a look like easy prey to Suleimann Benn. It has cost ten innings for Alviro Petersen to mark his last test half century, though he had three fifty plus scores in the last six innings before that. South Africa, at the end of the day’s play, scored 9 runs for the loss of one wicket.
