Nathan Lyon wreaked havoc with the ball as his career-best figures of 8 for 50 helped Australia to wrap up India for a paltry total of 189 in the first innings of the second Test at Bengaluru. In reply, the visitors made a cautious start and were 40 for no loss at the end of the day.
Earlier, India skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and rightfully decided to bat first. However, his decision was proved wrong straightaway as Mitchell Starc sent back Abhinav Mukund for an eight-ball duck. A 61-run partnership between KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara helped India recover from the early setback but Pujara’s dismissal at the stroke of Lunch followed by Virat Kohli’s soon after opened the floodgates. The hosts kept on losing wickets at regular intervals as they were eventually dismissed for 189. KL Rahul was India’s top-scorer with a gutsy knock of 90 runs while Karun Nair (26) was the only other batsman to cross the 20-run mark.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the day’s play:
First time in 40 years that India have been bowled out for less than 200 in three consecutive innings at home – 105, 107 and 189. #IndvAus

Australia is just one decent innings away from pretty much icing the series. What the hell is going on?

Kohli's judgment of leaving the balls is poorer than high court's judgment of leaving Salman Khan. #IndvAus

It's A Blunder. Players Getting Out Stumped In Tests. It's A Serious Concern. First Rahane, Now Karun Nair. Unaccpetable! #INDvAUS #INDvsAUS

One Batman got out by leaving the ball..
Two batsman got out by Stumping..
Which shows that the first Test loss still in players mind!
