Group C:
With figures of 0 for 36 in 7 overs, India fast bowler Mohammed Shami did not enjoy a very fruitful outing in his comeback match as Gujarat thrashed Bengal by 7 wickets in the top of the table clash.
Defending a paltry 168, the in-form Bengal bowlers came out a cropper against Gujarat as they chased down the total with utmost ease. Parthiv Patel and Priyank Panchal began the chase on a strong note, adding 69 runs for the first wicket before the latter was sent back by Aamir Gani. Pragyan Ojha then dismissed Samit Gohel (15) cheaply to revive Bengal’s hopes but Parthiv led from the front and scored 88 to help his team cross the finish line in the 28th over.
Earlier, India fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah starred with the ball that helped Gujarat restrict Bengal to a below-par total. The right-arm pacer drew the first blood when he had Shreevats Goswami caught behind when the score was 17. Six runs later, Bumrah struck again, this time dismissing Sudip Chatterjee for a 7-ball duck. Abhimanyu Easwaran (37), Aamir Gani (37) and Ashok Dinda (33) were the only notable contributors with the bat while Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 27 in his allotted 10 overs.
Brief scores:
Gujarat 172/3 (Parthiv Patel 88, Aamir Gani 1-41) beat Bengal 168/10 ( Abhimanyu Easwaran, Aamir Gani 37, Jasprit Bumrah 3-27)
