Delhi star Unmukt Chand and left-arm pacer Kulwant Khejroliya starred for Delhi on the last day of the group stage of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. After winning the toss, Delhi decided to bat first against Suresh Raina sans Uttar Pradesh. Gautam Gambhir was rested for the game and was replaced by Himmat Singh, who played his second game of the tournament.
Delhi had a torrid start as Shikhar Dhawan’s lean patch with the bat continued as he went back to the pavilion on a score of eight after facing 28 deliveries. Middle order too crumbled and Delhi was four down with a score of 85. Then Himmat Singh came to fore and him along with Unmukt Chand shared 86 runs for the fifth wicket, to pull Delhi out of a struggling situation.
However, the lower order couldn’t do much and Delhi was bowled out for a score of 220.
All the hopes were on the bowlers and they did not disappoint as Kulwant Khejroliya kicked off the show with a wicket on the first delivery of the innings. He continued to wreck havoc as five of the Uttar Pradesh’s batsmen were back in the pavilion with a score of 16, with four of them falling to Khejroliya. This vicious spell from the left-arm pacer was enough to break hopes of U.P.
The Prashant Gupta led the side to continued to lose wickets before being bowled out on a paltry of 108 in just 21.3 overs. Kulwant Khejroliya ended the day with five wickets to his name whereas Vikas Tokas and Subodh Bhati shared two wickets each.
This was a consolation win for Delhi as the state capital had already been ruled out of the tournament as they kicked off their campaign with three back to back losses, which was enough to rule out any opportunity for the side of making a comeback in the tournament.
