The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for the remaining two Test matches against Australia. The selectors retained the 15 out of 16 members of the previous squad with dropping off injured Hardik Pandya being the only change in the team.
Pandya suffered a shoulder injury before the Bangalore Test, hence he has been released from the squad.
Murali Vijay, who missed the second Test due to a shoulder injury has retained his place in the side, which gives a clear indication that he will walk in the team for the Ranchi Test in place of Abhinav Mukund, who made a comeback to the Test team after a hiatus of more than five years. Mukund though has retained his place as the third opener in the side.
There was no place for the fit-again duo of Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami. Both the injured players made their comebacks to the competitive cricket after a period of four and three months respectively. However, still, they were not considered for selection as Rohit just played two games whereas Shami marked an appearance in only one game of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2016/17.
The last two Test matches of the series will be played in Ranchi and Dharamsala. At present, both the teams have an equal say in the series by virtue of winning a game each.
India Squad for last two Tests: Virat Kohli (capt.), Murali Vijay, KL Rahul, Chetshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Karun Nair, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Wriddhiman Saha (WK), Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Jayant Yadav, Buvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Abhinav Mukund.
