UEFA Champions League: Twitter Reacts As Real Madrid & Bayern Munich Ease Into Last -88 1

Defending champions Real Madrid and Bayern Munich became the first two teams to qualify for the quarter-finals of this year’s UEFA Champions League with a big win over Napoli and Arsenal respectively. Both the teams struggled in the first half but fired on all cylinders in the second-half and replicated the scorelines from the first legs.

Napoli 1-3 Real Madrid:

Riding on Sergio Ramos’ brace, Zinedine Zidane’s men came from a goal down to beat Napoli 3-1 in the second leg of the last-16 tie.

The Partenopei, who needed to overcome a two-goal deficit, began strongly and deservedly got ahead on 24 minutes when Dries Mertens found the back of the net from a Marek Hamsik pass. However, the visitors took control of the proceeding when Ramos scored the equaliser and forced a Mertens own goal 12 minutes into the break. Alvaro Morata then put the tie to the bed after scoring Madrid’s third goal in the injury time.

Arsenal 1-5 Bayern Munich:

The Bundesliga champions confirmed their spot in the quarter-final with a thumping 5-1 win over 10-man Arsenal to advance 10-2 on aggregate.

Needing a strong performance to overturn a 5-1 deficit, the Gunners began the proceedings on a strong note with Theo Walcott scoring the opener in the 20 minutes. But the bleak hopes of making an unlikely comeback was quashed early into the second-half when Laurent Koscielny was sent off while conceding a penalty and Robert Lewandowski scored the equaliser from the spot.  Arjen Robben, Douglas Costa then scored before Arturo Vidal capped off the fine night for his team with a late brace.
