My Fault And Was Unaware Of The Rule, Says Peter Handscomb After Steven Smith's DRS Controversy 1

Peter Handscomb has taken the blame for the on-field DRS incident involving Australia captain Steven Smith, that led to Virat Kohli venting out his frustration in the post-match conference after India’s 75-run victory in the just concluded 2nd Test at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

Most of the fans were clueless when a furious Kohli rushed towards the umpires to point out Smith glancing at the dressing room, mulling whether to review the LBW decision. It took a while to understand the reason behind the instant flare up, which required the umpires to direct Smith to the pavilion.

Later on, Kohli clarified the reason and although he did not directly use the word ‘cheating’, the Delhi lad made sure that a message was conveyed properly.

Handscomb, later put up his hand to take the blame, pleading ignorance of the rules. Smith, who was hit in front of the pads by a ball from Umesh Yadav which kept low, immediately sought the words of Handscomb, who signaled towards the dressing room indicating his skipper to seek support from the management.

“I referred smudga (Smith) to look at the box… my fault and was unaware of the rule,” Handscomb said on Twitter.

“Shouldn’t take anything away from what was an amazing game!”

Kohli stated he was keeping an eye on this behavior of Australia since the last three days of the match.

“I saw that happening two times when I was batting out there. I pointed it out to the umpires … it has to stop,” he said.

“There are lines you don’t cross on the cricket field. I don’t want to mention the word (cheating), but it falls under that bracket,” he concluded.
