The one fascinating aspect about Kane Williamson is that his appetite for runs is top notch and a big score for him is always around the corner. The New Zealand captain led from the front with a fantastic knock in the ongoing first Test against South Africa at Dunedin.
The Day 2 commenced with the Proteas being rolled over for 308 after Trent Boult picked up four wickets. After losing opener Tom Latham early, Williamson steadied the ship along with Jeet Raval and the duo got together for a century stand. Despite losing Ross Taylor to an injury, Williamson carried on to pile up runs.
South Africa’s bowling coach Charl Langeveldt lauded Williamson for his superb knock post the day’s play.
“Kane put us under pressure, especially against the spinner. He didn’t let the spinner settle down, or even the seam bowlers,” said Langeveldt .
“The guys searched for a few wickets. Just blocking up one end would have been ideal, but Kane was on fire.”
Early on Day 3, Williamson brought up his century as the hosts posted 341 on the board, taking a first innings lead of 33. BJ Watling scored a gritty half-century while Neil Wagner chipped in with run a ball 32. For South Africa, Keshav Maharaj took a five-fer.
