Swashbuckling batsmen Virender Sehwag on January 9th wished the Indian team and hoped that MS Dhoni and co. would be able to successfully defend the World Cup that is scheduled to take place in Australia and New Zealand from 14th February-29th March.
While posing with the ICC World Cup trophy, Sehwag was quoted in saying:
“We are going to play the World Cup and we are the defending champion, so I hope we do well and bring this trophy to India and give lot of joy to Indian public.
“I would also like to say thanks to ICC and LG for bringing me here and giving me the opportunity to meet all of you and to lift the trophy again. We did it in 2011 after the World Cup and spend loads of time with the trophy and I’m lucky that I’m getting to spend a little time with the trophy again and with you guys also.”
It’s a gesture shown by Virender Sehwag considering the fact on what has been transpiring since December 7th (the date when BCCI announced the 30 probables for the World Cup). People lashed out at the selectors for omitting Virender Sehwag along with Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir from the squad. Also, there were speculations that MS Dhoni never wanted them in the team. But honestly speaking, this is not correct due to the fact that all three of them were not in best of their forms from the past two years.
With the likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina coming to terms at a crucial time, Virender Sehwag has shown his support for the team and this clearly shows that he doesn’t feel discarded and disappointed after being left out of the World Cup squad.
