Australia have called up Indian origin fast-bowler Gurinder Sandhu and Kane Richardson as a cover into their squad for the Carlton-Mid ODI tri-series involving India and England starting January 16th.

Australia like India and England, are fielding their World Cup squad in this tri-series and both Sandhu and Richardson have been added as a cover to give some rest to the seamers Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, who will be playing the World Cup for them.

A Cricket Australia statement read:

“Given the heavy workloads undertaken by Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood during the fourth Test, and the hamstring problems recently suffered by Perth-based pair Mitchell Johnson and Mitchell Marsh, the selectors have named South Australia’s Kane Richardson and New South Wales seamer Gurinder Sandhu as extra bowling options for the early matches of the Tri-Series.”

Richardson has played 8 ODIs for Australia in which he has taken 8 wickets at an economy rate of 4.74 while Sandhu is currently uncapped.
