10 interesting facts about WT20 final hero Carlos Brathwaite

England were forced to endure World Twenty20 heartbreak on Sunday as West Indies took the title thanks to an incredible showing from Carlos Brathwaite.

The Windies batsman hammered 24 in the last over of English bowler Ben Stokes. West Indies needed to score 19 runs from the last overs. Everybody thought England would win, but Braithwaite’s first six over the square leg boundary gave everybody a hope. The well built tall all-rounder went on to hit three more sixes that helped West Indies to win the World T20 for the second time.

Herculean Brathwaite also took three wickets in the match.

But, do you know who is this Carlos Brathwaite? It is really astonishing.

1)Date of Birth:  Carlos Brathwaite was born on 18 July 1988 in Barbados.

2) First class debut: He made his first-class debut against Trinidad and Tobago at St Augustine on February 11, 2011, and in the match, he picked up 7 wickets giving away 90 runs while playing for Combined Campuses and Colleges. He took 26 wickets from his first 8 first class matches. Carlos has played 37 FC matches so far and scored 1444 runs along with 87 wickets.

3)Debut ODI: He made his international debut in 2011 against Bangladesh in Chittagong, Bangladesh on 18 October 2011. Since then he has played only seven ODIs. But from now he will be the new toast of IPL.

4) Test debut: He made his Test debut against Australia this year . At Melbourne, 2015, December 26 he made his debut. He played throughout the series and the series bring him the fame. He scored 130 runs in two Tests.

5)T20 debut: He made his T20 debut against Bangladesh at Dhaka on 11 October 2011 at Dhaka He has played only two T20 matches for West  Indies so far.

6) IPL team: He was bought by Delhi Dare Devils for Rs. 4. 2 crores after a big  bargaining between Kolkata Knight Riders. Brathwaite said, “It feels good to be selected for the IPL.I want to thank Delhi Daredevils for giving me this opportunity and hope to do well for them.” His base price was only 30 lakhs.

7)Idols:  Indian batting great Rahul Dravid and out of favour flamboyant English cricketer, Kevin Pietersen are his favourite cricketer. He once said, “When I was growing up I used to bat at no.3 and was very defensive. I used to bat the majority of balls and Rahul Dravid was my idol.A little shift now, in the years since I’ve bulked up and changed my game a bit I’ve looked to Kevin Pietersen, the way he puts bowlers under pressure, the way he stamps his authority on the game. If I can have half the career he had I’ll be happy with that.”

8) Famous classmate: We all know pop singer Rihanna is a Barbadian. Now she a has connection with cricket. But how? Her classmate Carlos Braithwaite has won hearts of millions of cricket fans  after hitting four consecutive sixes at the iconic Eden Gardens to lift the WT20 trophy for West Indies. Both Brathwaite and Rihanna used to study at the Combermere School in Barbados. Brathwaite once said,  “My claim to fame before my Test debut was having shared a classroom with Rihanna in first and fourth form. Now I can say that probably me sharing a classroom with her and me playing a Test match at the MCG are probably on par.”

9) Relationship with Kraigg Brathwaite: They have no real relationship. But Carlos and Kraigg interestingly play for West Indies and both went to the same school and grew up together.

10)Major Teams: He has played cricket for West Indies, Antigua Hawksbills, Barbados, Barbados Tridents, Barbados Under-19s, Combined Campuses and Colleges, Sage core High-Performance Centre, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and West Indies A. Now, he will play for Delhi Daredevils in this year’s IPL.
