10 Talented Indian Cricketers Who Failed At Highest Level

10 Talented Indian Cricketers Who Failed At Highest Level; Not only success stories but also the game of cricket has seen many failure stories as well. There are many Indian cricketers who have fascinated everybody with their great performance in domestic cricket but they never proved their talent at an international level to stay in the team on a consistent basis.

Meanwhile, we figured out 10 players, who got a brilliant talent but never got a decent run on the International stage. However, they have been sensational players in the domestic format of the game.

10 Talented Indian Cricketers Who Failed At Highest Level:

10. Robin Uthappa:

Robin Uthappa currently plays for Karnataka in domestic cricket and Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. Even though he is of the best performers in IPL, he was dropped out of the international team. Uthappa made his One Day International debut in the seventh and final match of the English tour of India in April 2006.

He had a successful debut, making 86 as an opening batsman. He played an important role in India’s win at the 2007 ICC World Twenty20. From last few years, he failed to make it to the international team.

9. Nayan Mongia:

He was a pretty exceptional batsman but ruined his career by involving in the match-fixing. Though his name on the paper was removed later, the suspicions on his still remain intact with the fans. When the team was required to score at the rate of 6 per over to chase down the West Indies target,

Mongia batted as if he was there to save a Test match. We could see absolutely no sense of urgency in his batting and he was just defending the balls, dealing with singles and twos, and that too quite rarely. It certainly didn’t help, as he never had a long run. He scored 152 against Australian as an opening batsman, which shows his talent.

8. Vinod Kambli:

Determination and discipline never seemed to be there. Unlike his childhood mate Sachin, he hardly could lay his focus totally on cricket, which was hampered by so many distractions in the outside world. He lost the urge and vigour to play the game very early, especially after the dramatic end to India’s world cup quest in the semifinals of the 1996 World cup against Sri Lanka.

He remained in and out of the team so many times and was given adequate chances to come back strongly into the team, yet he could not cement his place in the side at all.

7. Amol Muzumdar:

On his Ranji trophy debut, under Ravi Shastri’s captaincy, against Haryana in the 1993-94 season, Mazumdar cracked 260, which continues to be the world record for the highest score made on a first-class debut. It certainly shows what a player he would have been if he had application in the International Cricket.

Perhaps, the only thing that went against him was that, at the peak of his form, there was no place in the Indian middle-order that included Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Ganguly and VVS Laxman.

6. Rohan Gavaskar:

Being the son of legendary Sunil Gavaskar was never easy, ask Rohan! There was a huge burden of expectations from him when he made it to the Indian squad, but could just manage an aggregate of 151 runs in 10 innings. Later, he went on to take other fields in the game of cricket.

5. Ajay Sharma:

His average in domestic cricket was 67.46, which was the third-highest in the all-time list. He got an opportunity to play for India, precisely for this reason. For some reason or the other, he played only a lone Test match and has, however, starred in 31 ODIs.

This stroke maker from Delhi hardly lived up to expectations as he could make only 424 runs out of the total ODIs played by him. He was the biggest disappointment, having achieved virtually nothing like an international batsman.

4. Venu Gopal Rao:

He was expected to be India’s best bet in ODI format of the game across the globe. However, he failed to make things fall in place with his batting. Venu used to play pretty slow knocks, which ended up seeing him on the wrong side of things.

With just 218 runs in 11 innings, Rao was unable to carve out a permanent spot for himself in the Indian squad and soon became out of favour.

3. Manoj Tiwary:

Manoj Tiwary gained attention from selectors and fans through his strokeplay and high runs scoring in Indian domestic cricket. He made his debut against Australia in the 2008 Commonwealth Bank Tri-Series in which he scored only 2 runs in his only innings.

He was later included in the India team for the West Indies tour of 2011, as a replacement for Yuvraj Singh. Later he got few chances at the international level, but his career is limited to a domestic career right now. A quality player, maybe, unlucky.

2. Aakash Chopra:

Akash Chopra was the epitome of a classical opener whose job was to blunt the new ball from one end so that middle order players were not exposed to the new ball.

He played his role perfectly. This was more prominent in India’s tour of Australia in 2003-04 where he complemented Sehwag’s blasting play with some patient knocks which laid the foundation for later players to bat on relatively easier conditions.

However, the flip side to this style of batting is that one has to play some really long knocks. Aakash Chopra failed to score runs for the team and for him as well. The only, which he used to do is knock the ball straight to the fielder or leave it alone. The plan was good to survive on the pitch but not in the team, as they ultimately looked at his runs.

1. Dinesh Karthik:

The Tamil Nadu batsman had done brilliantly for his state but failed to get the same on the International scene. There were also headlines that his place has always been as the back-up wicket-keeper, as MS Dhoni used to be the first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman for India.

Despite that, they tried to give him a place in the team purely as a batsman, yet, he failed to make things fall in place. Karthik has managed to secure only 94 ODI matches since making his debut in 2004.

He got his chance to play in ICC World Cup 2019 but failed to make it count in the single chance, which he got in the semifinal of the tournament. Probably, that would be an end of him unless selectors like to try him one more time.
