10 Things IPL will miss after the ban on CSK and RR

Dipayan Saha / 14 July 2015

The Lodha committee has banned Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals from the IPL for the next two years. Its a really heart breaking news for cricket fans in general and fans of CSK and RR in particular as its very hard to imagine the IPL being held without two former champions of the very competition.

Now with these two prominent IPL teams out of the competition, here is a list of 10 things related to CSK and RR, which we will not see during the IPL (at least for the next two years) :

1) Shilpa Shetty cheering for the Royals

Like SRK is the face of KKR, Priety Zinta is the face of Kings XI Punjab, similarly Shilpa Shetty was the face of the Rajasthan Royals. She was definitely one of the most enthusiastic team owners and have always supported the team even if they lost.
Her level of commitment towards her team was evident from the fact that she came to the stadium to cheer for her team even if she was pregnant !

2) Bravo’s legendary dance for CSK

Apart from being a terrific all-rounder, West Indian Dwayne Bravo also knew how to entertain everyone with some Caribbean calypso. Whenever he took a took a catch, committed a run out or dismissed any batsmen, he would start celebrating with his legendary dance in the CSK jersey which was simply a treat to watch. Probably he will continue doing so, but in another jersey maybe.

3) No more ‘Halla Bol’

The theme song of the Royals which contained the traditional elements of the Rajasthani folk was meant to pump up the players and fans and bring the best out of them whenever the Royals took the field. Its really unfortunate that this epic song won’t feature in the loud speakers for the next 2 years of IPL.

4) No Yellow Army in Chidambaram

Whenever CSK played in the Chidambaram stadium, they always used to enjoy an enormous crowd support tagged as the ‘Yellow Army’. Their fans used to come in their traditional yellow jerseys, wrapped with yellow flags and their faces also painted yellow. It must be really heart breaking for these very fans as their team won’t feature in the competition for the next two years and they won’t get to support their favorite team.

5) The Underdogs

Rajasthan Royals have always been the underdogs from the very inception of the IPL. Instead of taking high profile players in their team, they heavily relied on young guns and team work which established them as the ‘underdogs’ of the competition. Their ‘underdog’ stature has helped them to topple big oppositions in big matches.  We have always loved to watch an ‘underdog’ in action.

6) A brand new finalist

In the 8 glorious years of IPL, CSK has made to the final 6 times and have won it 2 times ! CSK and IPL finals almost became synonymous during all these years and with the former out of the competition, it gives teams like Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Daredevils, who have zero final appearances, a chance to qualify to the finals for the first time.

7) Rise of Youngsters at RR

In each of the IPL editions, Rajasthan Royals have always gifted India a brand new young talent. From Yousuf Pathan to Sanju Samson, from Deepak Hooda to Karun Nair, Royals’s talent bank has always been rich. It has been like a tradition that in all the editions, some RR youngster would rise to perform on the biggest platform and would amaze the world. Its a big setback to the Indian cricket too now that RR will not play in the IPL.

8) Amazing fielding and catches by the CSK outfit –

CSK are undoubtedly one of the best fielding sides of the IPL. The team boasts of players like Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, Brendon McCullum and Ravindra Jadeja who have extraordinary fielding abilities and has taken some spectacular catches during the matches.
Its very sad to imagine that the cricket lovers will be starved of such amazing on-field entertainment.

9) Rahul Dravid on RR sidelines

The very sight of Rahul Dravid sitting on the Royals sidelines, devising strategies for the team and guiding players was one of the most prized memories of the previous IPLs which won’t be repeated any more, at least for the next two years.

10) Dhoni in Yellow Jersey

All cricket fans are used to this particular sight before any CSK match. Skipper Dhoni going to toss for his team in yellow jersey and yellow cap. Its very hard for fans to think otherwise and even harder for CSK fans to imagine Dhoni leading another team in the IPL.
