15 men Sri Lankan squad for Asia Cup and World T20 announced

Sri Lanka has announced their 15 men squad for Asia Cup and World T20 2016 today. Sri Lanka will play their first Asia Cup match on February. And they are in the group one with South Africa, West Indies, England and winner of group B. 

They are the defending champion of the last edition. Lasith Malinga will be the captain of the side while Angelo Mathews was named as vice-captain of the side.

Malinga last played a T20 match in November last year against West Indies while Matthews did not play the series against New Zealand and India.

The current Sri Lanka squad is filled with new faces except Matthews, Malinga, Dilshan, Kulasekara, Thisara Perera and Chandimal. Sri Lanka Cricket found it difficult to select a team after the retirement of batting stalwart Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene.

 

Comparing to 2014 edition of Sri Lanka team this squad for the World T20 team is weak. They recently lost the series to India and New Zealand.
But, the presence of experienced warriors like Dilshan and Malinga will add some strength to the team.
