2 strongest contenders to become India’s vice-captain

The Indian Test team is undergoing a complete transformation. With a relatively new skipper at the helm, the young team still has a long way to go before becoming a settled outfit.
Apart from their captain Virat Kohli and few players, others are still trying to cement their spot in the Test team. Kohli took the charge of the team in 2015 when Mahendra Singh retired from Tests after leading India to unprecedented heights in the longest format. Kohli still needs to achieve a lot to match his illustrious predecessor, but so far he has done a commendable job. The Delhi lad was team India’s vice-captain when Dhoni was leading the team and it can be said that he has learnt a trick of two from Dhoni. The captain plays an important role in helping his deputy to learn the basics of captaincy which comes in handy when the captain is not available for one reason or another.
The Indian team is currently without a vice-captain and we are sure that the team management will appoint one sooner than later. So here we are having a look at two potential candidates who can become Kohli’s deputy.
1.Ajinkya Rahane:
Ajinkya Rahane is one of the most consistent batsmen of the Indian team over the last couple of years. One of the batting mainstays of this inexperienced team, Rahane has performed in all conditions. His brilliant performances made the team management to reward him with the vice-captaincy on the West Indies where he justified it with another outstanding performance.
The right-handed batsman has so far played 26 Tests and has scored 1862 runs at an average of 49. He also has a cool head on his shoulder which can work in his favour.
2. Ravichandran Ashwin:
Arguably the most impressive performer for the Indian team, Ashwin is another top contender for this post. He has strengthened his claim with a brilliant all-round performance on the West Indies tour. In his short career, the off-spinner has already won 6 Man of the Series awards, which is a proof that he is probably the best performer of the team right now. In 36 matches he has taken 193 wickets apart from scoring 1439 runs.
