2017 Records: Most Runs Conceded In A Spell In T20I’s

T20I’s remain a massive source of entertainment for fans across the globe, as the shortest form of the game churns out some memorable games quite often. More often than not, however, it comes at a certain expense – bowlers conceding most runs.
An expensive in particular, which makes the breed of bowlers a far endangered one. It’s an obvious fact now that bowlers, irrespective of their stature, have bore the brunt of the willow and their credentials have gone for a clear toss.
2017 as a year was no different, as the format witnessed some really expensive spells where certain bowlers were belted, and taken to the cleaners. Below, we go through the five most expensive T20I spells of 2017.
5. Mohammad Siraj – 4- 53 – 1 :
Making his international debut at Rajkot on a batting paradise, Siraj had far from an ideal outing as he was thrashed right in his first hurray of international cricket. A destructive Colin Munro got in the Hyderabad pacer’s way as the debutant’s figures went out for a toss. The wicket of Kane Williamson offered some relief, but by then Siraj had already been treated with disdain.
4. Mohammad Saifuddin – 4- 53 -2 :
Bangladesh endured a nightmare of a tour in South Africa as the hosts ruthlessly preyed upon the helpless team. The T20I at Potchefstroom was another such outing as the Bangladeshi bowlers stood helpless against the Proteas. In due course, Mohammad Saifuddin went on to concede 53 in his four overs, making it the fourth most expensive spell of the year.
3. Chris Jordan – 4 – 56 -1:
Bangalore witnessed an absolute run gluten on the 1st of February as the Indian batting might unleash its fury on a bewildered English bowling attack. The likes of Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni were at the helm of sheer destruction as India posted a total more than 200, to have England on the mat. Pacer Chris Jordan, in particular, took some beating from the ever graceful willow of Yuvraj Singh and went on to concede 56 in his spell of 4 overs. The pacer was dispatched to all parts of the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium as India comfortably won the game and series.
2. Shapoor Zadran – 4 – 60 – 1:
The tall left-arm Afghan pacer, often known for his uncanny resemblance to the ever-mercurial Shoaib Akhtar, was on the receiving end of Ireland’s vicious batting assault. The towering pacer was hit for 60 in his spell of 4 overs, and his economy rate of 15 just justified the destruction witnessed at the Greater Noida Stadium, earlier this year.
1.Barry McCarthy – 4 – 69 -0:
Ireland’s Barry McCarthy bowled the most expensive T20I spell of the year. In the same game as the one where Shapoor Zadran was clobbered, McCarthy went through a similar routine, of being taken apart by the opposing batsmen. Conceding 69 runs in his quota of 4 overs, McCarthy bowled one of the most expensive spells in the history of T20 cricket, as he got associated with an extremely unwanted list.
Below, is the table displaying the top 10 most expensive T20I spells of the year:
