After staying away from the Indian National Cricket Team for quite a period of time, Mohammed Shami made an astounding return to the game. He became India’s reliable bowler across the formats with his incredible consistency. Meanwhile, yet again, he has been under the pump with his wife Hasin Jahan opening a charge-sheet on him over Dowry and a few other legal issues.
With the second hearing being scheduled on June 22nd, his participation in ICC World Cup 2019 is in jeopardy. Though it is tough to replace him, we figured out three bowlers, who could be back up for him in the grand event.
Here are they:
3. Siddharth Kaul:
The Punjab fast bowler has been the occasional visitor of the Indian National Cricket Team. He comes into the team for a couple of matches and gets out from the team when a regular player is making a comeback. Once again, the Board of Control for Cricket in India would ask him to travel England in absence of Mohammed Shami.
He got the knack of picking wickets with his knuckle delivery and also got the bagful of tricks to trouble batsman. The youngster has got enough domestic experience and also learnt a lot during his national stint with the regular players. He might get the nod if Indian selectors feel his need in England conditions.
2. Umesh Yadav:
The athletic Umesh Yadav has always been on the radar in the Indian team for his Pace. He also did brilliant enough in the domestic season for Vidarbha to make things fall in place but received a lot of flak when he conceded victory for Australia while bowling at Australia’s tail-enders.
Despite that, Umesh Yadav might get the nod, as he is experienced campaigner available in the country. He can give that extra-fast bowling options with his sheer pace, which would do the trick in English conditions. Most Probably, he would be on the radar even if Shami makes his presence.
1. Khaleel Ahmed:
The left-handed fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed was a force to reckon with during the series against Windies at home. After that, he toured Australia to showcase his skills in limited overs format. Though he went for runs, he picked wickets for the team during crunch situations of the game.
However, it didn’t help him to retain his position. He failed to showcase his skills in New Zealand, which saw his ouster from the team against the Australian side. But, with Shami being unavailable, they might ask him to play for India. With him, India would get a variety in their attack, as he is a left-handed fast bowler.
