Rishabh Pant was in his elements during the ongoing Test against England as he scored a stunning century to bail India out of trouble at Edgbaston.

There was absolutely no stopping Rishabh Pant on day one of the Edgbaston Test as he scored a sublime ton to help India recover from a disastrous start. While all of India’s top-order batsmen failed to deliver, Pant stood like a rock for the team.

Asked to bat first, India were off to a disastrous start. The likes of Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Hanuma Vihari, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer failed to get going as the visitors found themselves reeling at 98 for 5. At that stage, a good total was looking like a distant dream for Team India.

When Pant came out to bat, India were reeling at 71 for 4. However, it did not affect him much as he kept playing his natural game and was duly rewarded for it. The southpaw took the England bowlers to the cleaners and completed his hundred off just 89 balls.

By the time he was dismissed by Joe Root, he had scored 146 while sharing 222 runs with Ravindra Jadeja for the sixth wicket. Thanks to Pant’s century and Jadeja’s unbeaten fifty, India finished day one on a commanding position of 338 for 7.

Rishabh Pant takes Jack Leach to the cleaners:

One of the highlights of Rishabh Pant’s knock was the over when he took in-form England spinner Jack Leach to the cleaners. Leach entered the game on the back of a 10-wicket match haul against New Zealand. However, his form counted for little as Pant toyed with his bowling. At the end of the day, Leach had given away 71 runs in just 9 overs.

In his last over of the day, Pant smashed him for 22 runs. The over started with a couple of singles before Pant decided to go big. On the third ball of the over, he swept Leach for a four. On the next delivery, the southpaw danced down the track to deposit the ball into the stands for a six.

As if those two hits were not enough, Pant received four runs in overthrow after a wild throw from the fielder at square leg. On the final ball of the over, Pant came out of his crease again to hit yet another six and cap off a miserable day for Leach.
