Five Lowest Totals In IPL History

With less than a month left for the 2017 edition of the Indian Premier League, the franchises and players will look forward to giving their best yet gain. Under-performers of 2016 like Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab and Rising Pune Supergiants would look to gain attention this time around while teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad would like to continue their last year’s success. Let us showcase you five of the lowest totals in IPL history;

Royal Challengers Bangalore’ 49 against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in 2017

Ten years after the inauguration of the lucrative league, Royal Challengers Bangalore posted the lowest total in the history of IPL, by just putting up mere 49 on the board, while chasing 132 against Gautam Gambhir led Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Rajasthan Royals’ 58 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Capetown in 2009

Just like the inaugural edition, the second edition of the IPL was a huge success. Though it was hosted by South Africa, the viewers didn’t disappoint to see the local Indian tournament held on the bouncy tracks. The second match of the edition was a big disaster for the 2008 champions Rajasthan Royals. After opting to bat first, Royal Challengers Bangalore scored a mere 133; thanks to Rahul Dravid’s fighting 66 off 48 balls.

On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals were confident of achieving the target with their young talent but Shane Warne’s warriors stumbled in front of experienced bowling attack of RCB. Legend Anil Kumble delivered his one of the top performances with five wickets for as many runs.

Delhi Daredevils’ 66 against Mumbai Indians at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi, 2017

Delhi Daredevils have made a habit of making records, poor records. For the second time in the same season (2017), Delhi Daredevils have failed to click as a unit and has registered their another lowest team total, while chasing time. After showcasing poor cricket against Kings XI Punjab, Delhi could all put up 66 against Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians, while hunting a huge total of 2013. They though lost the match by 146 runs.

Delhi Daredevils were bowled out by Kings XI Punjab for a mere total of 67 in the 10th edition of IPL during their clash at Mohali.

Kolkata Knight Riders’ 67 against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium in 2008

Kolkata Knight Riders didn’t have the best of the inaugural edition of the IPL. They stood at sixth place after winning six games out of 14. One of the biggest losses they’ve ever faced came in that season when star-studded Mumbai Indians defeated them by eight wickets.

After winning the toss, Mumbai’s Sachin Tendulkar sent KKR to bat first. They got off to a flying start before Shaun Pollock removed Salman Butt in the third over. After that, no one could stay on the pitch for long; which resulted in their debacle (for just 67 runs).

In reply, Mumbai Indians won the match in just sixth over with the help of Jayasuriya’s brilliant 17-ball 48. Shaun Pollock was adjudged the Man of the Match for magnificent figures of 3/12 in his four overs.
