Aakash Chopra predicted that both batsmen Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav could make it to the T20I team against England and he was spot on. He reasoned that the incumbent batsmen like Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, and Sanju Samson have not grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He predicted correctly as both Manish Pandey and Sanju Samson were shown the door after repeated failures in the 19 man T20I squad against England in 5 T20Is.
Shreyas Iyer scored 59 runs in 3 ODIs averaging 19.67 and only 12 runs from 2 T20I matches whereas Sanju Samson scored 48 runs averaging 16 in 3 T20I games against Australia. Manish Pandey scored 2 in the only T20I he played before suffering an elbow niggle as Shreyas Iyer replaced him in 2nd T20I, but the move didn’t pay rich dividends as he failed in 3rd T20I.
Aakash Chopra: Suryakumar Yadav Has Done A Lot Of Work With His Bat And Hopefully He Will Get Opportunity To Play
The 30-year-old received his maiden India call for the upcoming T20I series against England, and former India cricketer Aakash Chopra praised the domestic veteran for continuing to work hard despite all the disappointments.
“It took a while but his name came at last. He’s done a lot of hard work, scored lots of runs. In the end, his bat did the talking and I’m very happy for him. Hopefully, he’ll get an opportunity play and do well,” Aakash Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.
Suryakumar Yadav scored 480 runs in 16 games averaging 40 in IPL 2020 which was hailed by fans who felt disappointed when his name wasn’t in the Australian tour’s limited-overs squad. He also notched up 424 runs and 512 runs in the previous two editions for Mumbai Indians.
After Suryakumar Yadav was not named in the squad, fans questioned the team’s selection, and it took coach Ravi Shastri to calm things down. In a tweet last year, Ravi Shastri had asked Suryakumar Yadav to remain “strong” and “patient”. The patience and hard work for the Mumbai batsman have paid off after he was added to the T20I squad.
Aakash Chopra Feels Great To See Rahul Tewatia In T20I Squad As He Can Bowl Leg-Spin And Hit Big Sixes
Aakash Chopra also praised Rajasthan Royals youngster Rahul Tewatia who grabbed the spotlight after numerous match-winning performances for his team in the IPL 2020.
“It’s great to see Rahul Tewatia also in the mix. Brings two skills to the table. Can bowl leg-spin and hit the big sixes. That’s something is very good about him,” Chopra added.
Rahul Tewatia came into reckoning amassing 255 runs averaging 42.5 at a strike rate of 139.34 besides taking 10 scalps averaging 32.6 in IPL 2020. Rahul Tewatia made his abilities known with stellar performances in last year’s edition, particularly an innings where he went from struggling on 5 off 13 to hit six sixes off his last eight balls to take Rajasthan Royals to victory against Punjab Kings.
