AB De Villiers is set to miss the test series against Bangladesh. AB de Villiers is expected to be on a paternity leave as he awaits the birth of his first child. De Villiers however, will be a part of the limited overs teams which will tour Bangladesh.

Other than De Villiers, Dale Steyn is rested for the ODI leg for the tour. Steyn had earlier stated that in order to prolong his career, he would skip a few bilateral series’.

The test squad comprises of several new faces. As many as four uncapped players have been called up. The four uncapped players are batsman Reeza Hendricks, wicketkeeper Dane Vilas, spinner Aaron Phangiso and under 19 pace sensation Kagiso Rabada.

Andrew Hudson, the chief selector was quoted saying, “Reeza and Stiaan van Zyl are both options to open the batting and Stiaan can also be used in AB’s batting position in the middle-order,” Hudson said. “Dane provides us with the wicketkeeping cover that would normally also be AB’s responsibility. Aaron gives us a left-arm spin bowling option and we see this as the ideal opportunity to involve Kagiso in the Test team environment once again, so he will be the back-up fast bowling option.”

A surprising inclusion is that of Eddie Leie, the 28 year old leg spinner. He was chosen for the T20 series and was considered to be a handy package for next year’s T20 World Cup in India. “With next year’s ICC World Twenty20 to be played in India we need to explore our bowling options under sub-continent conditions.” “Morris has done well in the IPL as have David Wiese and Beuran Hendricks and this tour represents an important opportunity to broaden their international playing experience,” said Hudson.
