South Africa will play three T20Is, five ODIs and four Tests in India. The Proteas will be playing T20Is for the first time on Indian soil while this will be their maiden four-Test series against India since 1992/93.

De Villiers has immense experience of playing in India. He plays for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League and his exploits for the franchise have made him an immense favourite among the fans. He has played five Tests in India and has an average of 53.17, with his highest score being an unbeaten 217 in Ahmedabad in April 2008.
