AB De Villiers, RCB’s batting mainstay guided his team to an unlikely win by scoring a brisk 55 after which Mike Hesson, Director of Cricket for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) termed him as superhuman. The explosive batsman played a match-winning innings against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020.
Well, RCB chased down the target of 178 after AB De Villiers remained unbeaten on 55 off 22 balls with one four and as many as six sixes. The wicketkeeper-batsman has now scored 285 runs averaging 57 with four fifties in IPL 2020.
AB De Villiers Is Superhuman, And Royal Challengers Bangalore Is Lucky To Have Him In Squad: Mike Hesson
Rajasthan Royals were restricted to 177 for six despite skipper Steven Smith scoring 57 with Chris Morris delivering yet again with the ball by picking four wickets after conceding 26 runs in his quota of four overs. Yuzvendra Chahal picked up the other two wickets. In reply, Virat Kohli scored 43, but AB De Villiers knock was special as he went on a six-hitting spree.
The penultimate over by Jaydev Unadkat saw 25 runs. He went wicketless and conceded as many as 46 runs. Jofra Archer too had an off day conceding 38 runs in 3.4 overs as RCB won by seven wickets with two balls to spare.
“He is superhuman, there are very few in the cricket world who could do that, we are very lucky to have him in RCB, we have seen a couple of performances like this from him this year, probably three to be fair and in the match against Rajasthan, he was as good as it gets,” Hesson said in a video posted on the official Twitter handle of RCB.
AB de Villiers walked to the crease with more than 70 runs required off 7 overs at a required run rate of more than 10 runs per over, but the penultimate overturned the match in RCB’s favour.
AB De Villiers And Chris Morris Were Exceptional: Mike Hesson
RCB are now in 3rd position in the points table with six wins and three losses in nine matches having 12 points. Rajasthan Royals are 7th on the points table with only six points.
“Priority for us is to get better, we won against Rajasthan Royals on the back of outstanding individual performance, we relied on the fact that ABD is as good as he was. Chris Morris was exceptional but all in all, it was not our best performance, it’s a good sign for RCB that we haven’t played our best cricket yet we managed to win,” Mike Hesson said.
Chris Morris missed some initial matches with injury but came back strongly contributing with both bat and ball. He has featured in four IPL matches and picked up nine wickets averaging only 9.33. He leads the best bowling average charts. He scored 25 runs off only eight balls in the only innings he batted.
