ACB Suspends Contract Of Mohammad Shahzad For Indefinite Period
The flamboyant batsman Mohammad Shahzad is facing one of the tough phases of his life at present. The hard-hitting opening batsman has been suspended by the respective Afghanistan Cricket Board for an indefinite period for breaching the code of conduct.
Mohammad Shahzad, according to an ACB release, did not adhere to the cricket board’s policy. It was regarding its permission before travelling out of the country. It is not the first time Shahzad has acted against the policy. Earlier, he was found to be in breach of ACB’s Code of Conduct when he played in a local Peshawar tournament in 2018.
Recently, one of the shocking news comes out from the Afghanistan camp regarding the injury of Mohammad Shahzad. The Afghanistan swashbuckling opening batsman Shahzad was sent back home citing the Knee Injury. However, later, the opening batsman reveals that he wasn’t injured.
Mohammad Shahzad didn’t attend meetings:
ACB also said Mohammad Shahzad failed to attend meetings with the ACB Discipline Committee. Especially, in relation to disciplinary matters during World Cup 2019. Notably, Shahzad was dropped from Afghanistan’s World Cup squad after their first 2 matches in the quadrennial tournament in England after he was declared unfit.
“As per the policies, any player travelling out of the country is required to seek the permission of ACB. Shahzad has not adhered to this, repetitively,” the ACB said.
“Mohammad Shahzad breached the ACB Code of Conduct previously. And also, was recently called for questioning by the ACB Discipline Committee. It was in relation to a disciplinary matter during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Mohammad Shahzad did not attend meetings scheduled with the Discipline Committee on 20th and 25th of the last month,” ACB said in a statement.
Shahzad spent his early years in Pakistan’s Peshawar as he was born in a refugee camp there. He has courted controversy in the past also. Last year, he was found to be in breach of ACB’s Code of Conduct when he played in a local Peshawar tournament and was asked to reside permanently in Afghanistan or risk having his contract terminated.
However, it is unfortunate to see Afghanistan board treating Mohammad Shahzad in such way. He has always been their best batsman in the ranks and played quite a few scintillating knocks for the team under pressure.
