In Chris Gayle’s absence against Sri Lanka at Bangalore, it was an ideal opportunity for Andre Fletcher to create an impression and seal his spot in the games to follow. Fletcher did exactly that as he played a swashbuckling innings to seal the chase for West Indies. After the game ended, Fletcher said that he was delighted to make full use of the opportunity.
While speaking about the wicket laid out, the right-hander admitted that batting wasn’t easy.”It (Pitch) was a little difficult. The ball started spinning a lot, but I told myself after seeing a few wickets fall that it’s my opportunity to bat through. So I gave it my best to see the match home and I am happy I did that,” Fletcher said.
“I have been playing T20 for a while, and I have been getting out as soon as I make 50. So I was trying to encourage myself to bat through as much as possible, and wickets were falling, so I knew that if I bat through we have a great chance of winning. I am happy that I did that. I was a little bit under pressure because I wanted to do well. I always try to motivate myself and in doing that, I came out on top. I’m happy for that,” said Fletcher.
He was quick to admit that he wasn’t certain about his batting position in the games to follow. “It depends on the team we select and the opposition we play. I cannot say that I would be opening or even playing the next game, so I have to just keep my fingers crossed,” he said.
