England’s new fast bowling sensation, Toby Roland-Jones is Poms first setback before the Ashes series beginning 23 November, as he is doubtful for the series due to a lower back stress fracture.
Roland-Jones plays for county side Middlesex and is set to miss their last match of the season against Somerset. Jones was a part of the Middlesex team which defeated Lancashire by 36 runs. However, he couldn’t finish the game.
Roland-Jones made his international debut against South Africa at The Oval in July. He took five wickets in an innings in the very first match for England. He also became the 47th player for England to pick a five-fer on his debut. The previous player to achieve that feat was Adil Rashid in 2015 against Pakistan.
A Middlesex official said,
“The result of the medical scan has revealed Toby has a stress fracture in his L5 vertebra (lower back), which will mean he will take no further part in the domestic season for Middlesex.”
England will announce their Ashes squad on Wednesday. The tour will begin on November 4th. The first Ashes Test match is scheduled to start from 23rd November to be played at The Gabba, Brisbane.
England has had an excellent home season in 2017, as they have won all the Test series played at home. Their last Test campaign was against the Windies which the English side won 2-1. On the other hand, Australia has been struggling to find the right combination. Their tour of Asia has been mixed bag. They lost their first ever Test against Bangladesh. However, they managed to win the next match and draw the series 1-1.
The urn is currently with England, and the Aussies will be looking to regain the Ashes when the English team travels Down Under.
