Broad, politely, showed a bye-bye signal to Labuschagne who had to walk back after the replays showed that he was dismissed on the basis of umpire’s call. Here is the video of Broad’s courteous send-off to Labuschagne –

The Australian batsman was confident of overturning Kumar Dharamasena’s decision but replays showed that it was umpire’s call. Since Dharamasena had given him out, Labuschagne had to walk back to the pavilion.

His wicket meant Australia lost their third wicket on 24 but in the end, the visitors posted a total of 186/6 on the board in 42.5 overs, asking England to chase down 383.

Coming out to bat in the chase with less than 10 overs remaining in the day, England suffered two jitters. Pat Cummins got the first wicket of Rory Burns on the third delivery of the opening over. On the next ball, England skipper Joe Root missed the ball and got bowled to register his third duck in the ongoing series.

After twin blows, Jason Roy and Joe Denly survived next six overs without giving away any wicket. On the final day, Australia need eight wickets to retain the Ashes. On the other hand, England have to either score 365 runs or survive for more than 90 overs.

They did pull off a heist in the previous Test, where Ben Stokes put up 76 runs for the final wicket with Jack Leach but England would hope not to get into a similar situation in Manchester.

A win for Australia will mean that they will keep the Ashes urn but if the fourth Test ends in a draw, the winner of the fifth Test will win the series and take away the Ashes urn. If the next Test also ends in a draw (if this Test draws), the series will end 1-1 but Australia will travel back with Ashes urn by virtue of winning the series in 2017/18.
