England was able to bounce back in the fifth and final Test match as they won by 135 runs. Australia gave fight through Matthew Wade’s knock of 117 runs but 399 runs were always to be a challenge for the visitors especially after Steven Smith got out cheaply for 23 runs. The tourists’ had earlier retained the Ashes when they had won the fourth Test match by 185 runs but England was able to draw the series. This is the first time since 1972 that the Ashes series is drawn.

Consequently, was a fine effort from the hosts as they were able to tick the right boxes. Stuart Broad was the pick of England’s bowlers as the veteran pacer scalped four wickets on a penultimate day. Jack Leach was also able to take four wickets whereas captain Joe Root chipped in with two crucial breakthroughs.
England dominated the final Test match.
Meanwhile, Australia had a worse possible start as Marcus Harris was cleaned up by Stuart Broad. The experienced pacer continued his domination against David Warner as he dismissed him for the seventh time in the series – to equal the Test record of dismissing a player for the most number of times. Marnus Labuschagne was stumped brilliantly by Jonny Bairstow while England came up with a successful plan against Steven Smith.

Root had Ben Stokes at leg-slip and Smith made the mistake of hitting to the left of the all-rounder. In fact, the talismanic batsman finished the Ashes series with astonishing 774 runs in seven innings at an average of 110.5.
Meanwhile, Australia’s southpaw batsman Matthew Wade showed resistance with the bat but the visitors were always going to fall short of the target. No other batsman could hang around much with Wade and Australia was skittled out for 263 runs.
In fact, the next top score for Australia after Matthew Wade’s 117 was Mitchell Marsh’s 24. Marsh also had the rub of the green on his side as he was dismissed on a no-ball by Chris Woakes.

A win at the Oval for England levels the #Ashes2019 at 2-2 for the first time since 1972. Australia takes the urn home deservingly while Smith remains the top-performer from either side. Stokes, Leach, Cummins, Hazlewood & Wade among performers.

David Warner in the entire series has scored just 95 runs. It is the lowest tally for any opening batsman in a Test series with at least 10 inns. #Ashes
