Ashes 2023: Another Injury For England, Ollie Robinson Set For Scan On His Ankle Ahead Of The Test Against Ireland

England Team has suffered yet another blow ahead of the all-important Ashes 2023 as their primary fast bowler Ollie Robinson failed to take the field for Sussex after suffering an injury in the left ankle. England is already sweating on the number injury to their key players including their skipper Ben Stokes and star pacer Jofra Archer and James Anderson.

The 29-year-old currently playing for Sussex in the County Championship Division Two 2023 under the leadership of Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara has suffered an unfortunate injury adding more worries to England team management.

Speaking on his injury Sussex coach Paul Farbrace revealed that Ollie Robinson has a sore left ankle and said that his injury will be monitored by the Sussex and England medical team.

 “Ollie has a sore left ankle and he will be scanned on Monday to see how bad he is. We knew it was sore yesterday. We’ll find out what the issue is on Monday,” he added.

“It was precautionary. There was no point in making it worse. It’s the walking more than the running in. He was all right running down the slope. He did OK. It’s a joint decision between the Sussex medical team and the England medical team,” he added.

The Right arm pacer marked his return from a long-standing back injury in the home series against South Africa taking 12 scalps in two Tests and the Right arm pacer is one of the seamers primed to be in England’s squad for the Ashes along with the likes of James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Mark Wood and others. Robinson was part of the playing XI for England’s away Test series against Pakistan and New Zealand as well.

Ollie Robinson Expected Play Vital Role For England In Ashes 2023

Ollie Robinson has been a regular feature for England since his return ahead of the home series against South Africa in July 2021 and in the previous Ashes series, he did a decent job in the four Tests he played. The 29-year-old picked up 11 wickets at an average of 25.55.

Ben Stokes is also nursing a chronic knee problem that has restricted his bowling and according to various reports, Olly Stone will reportedly be unavailable for at least the first Ashes Test after suffering a hamstring injury. It will interesting to see the kind of team England fields against Australia in the 1st test in Edgbaston.

Robinson is in England’s 15-men squad to face Ireland at Lord’s on 1 June, with James Anderson also part of the squad it is highly that both pacers play the match as they are expected to be rested for the one-off test to keep themselves fit for the all-important Ashes 2023.

England hasn’t held the Ashes trophy since 2015 when they beat Australia on home soil. Their arch-rivals have won two of the last three series, with the 2019 leg in England resulting in a draw and they will look to continue their aggressive style game going into the important series.

Ben Stokes and Co. lost only one out of their 10 home Tests last year, including a 3-0 clean sweep of New Zealand and their form has been outstanding in the past 12 months, giving them the best chance to win against Australia in 2023.
