Australian batting coach Michael Di Venuto came up with a witty reply stating that Australian opener David Warner is keen on playing a few more Ashes series after England pacer Stuart Broad announced his retirement from International cricket following the 5th test at the Oval.

Stuart Broad has been David Warner’s nemesis in Test cricket. The Australia opener has a terrible record against the England pacer in the longest format of the game. Broad and David Warner faced each other in 31 Tests and the pacer had dismissed the southpaw 17 times.

Speaking to the media after the end of the Day 4 play, Michael di Venuto said that Australian opener David Warner has looked very positive in his approach in the series so far, as he had some good starts to his innings and reckons that he was dismissed by the poor shot selection and hopeful of him doing well in the final day of the game.

“I think he’s pretty keen to go on for a few more Ashes series now [hinting at Broad’s retirement]. On this tour, he has looked to be positive most of the time on his feet. We have seen plenty of energy out of the crease. He has made some really good starts, and just generally made a poor decision when he has been dismissed”.

“The way he has been playing, it has been a little out of character when he has been dismissed. So far in this innings he has looked really good, made some good decisions, and played really nicely,” Michael di Venuto said.

When Australia visited England in 2019 for the Ashes, Broad had pretty much bullied Warner. The right-arm pacer had dismissed him 7 times in 10 innings as the batsman managed to score only 95 runs during the disastrous series and in the ongoing series Warner was dismissed three times by Broad.

Twenty Years Is A Long Time, We’re In A Great Position For Some Of The Boys… – Michael Di Venuto

Michael Di Venuto is confident of Australia coming over the top against England on the final day of the game, as it has been in a long time winning away ashes series, and asserted that the team is in a great position to win the game on the fifth day of the game.

“There are a lot of guys who have been on Ashes series over here in the past and haven’t managed to win. Twenty years is a long time. We’re in a great position for some of the boys to get that on their resume.

“We’re all pretty keen to score those runs tomorrow [Monday]. This morning when we got our target we knew we had a long time to bat to score those runs,” Michael di Venuto added.

The Australian team has done exceedingly well on England soil so far, as they showed a lot of composure to play the high-octane games in England. Pat Cummins-led side will look to do well on the final day of the game to win the series on the away soil after 22 long years.
