It is reported that India is looking at Suryakumar Yadav And Sanju Samson as the Backup option for the mega event in India.
Team India has been blown hot and cold in all three formats failing to produce an impactful performance in the ICC events as their last trophy came in the 2013 Champions Trophy.
All eyes will be on the Indian team as players and fans will be desperate to end their long wait for an ICC title and the Rohit Sharma-led side has not won a global tournament since winning the 2013 Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.
Team India has dealt with numerous injuries with KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer still recovering from injuries at NCA, According to the reports in HindustanTimes, The Indian middle order batters are undergoing strength and fitness training in NCA as they will look to achieve full fitness in the coming to be fully fit for the ODI World Cup later this year.
“They have resumed batting in the nets and are currently undergoing strength and fitness drills. The BCCI Medical Team is satisfied with their progress and will increase their intensity in terms of both skills and strength and conditioning in the coming days,” he added.
“It’s not just whether they can bat, again. At this stage, it cannot be ascertained if they can field at full fitness in a 50 overs match,” a BCCI official told Hindustan Times.
Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul are unlikely to be picked for the Asia Cup 2023, as the India squad for the much anticipated continental event is set to be announced later this week. The duo has missed out on the majority of the 2023 season due to the injury but is working to put their best foot forward to be fit for the marquee event in the country after 12 long years.
As for the Indian team concerned Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja have already sealed their spot in the playing 11 with few players fighting for their spots in the team. India is looking at Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson as backup middle-order batters for the Indian team in the absence of the star batters, as they are likely to be part of the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2023.
