Team India captain, Rohit Sharma, has discussed the possibility of including both KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan in the playing 11 for India in the future. KL Rahul will join the India squad for the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2023, while Ishan Kishan, who has been in great form, will compete for the wicket-keeper position with his impressive recent performances for the team.
Ishan Kishan has been a key player in the Indian batting lineup due to his flexibility as he has shown his ability to bat at different positions for the team in ODI cricket. The left-handed batsman has been in excellent form in the ODI format of the game, scoring four consecutive half-centuries, and would look to continue his fine form going forward.
Speaking to the media, Rohit Sharma revealed that there is a possibility of playing both KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan in the playing 11. The Indian skipper stated that the team selection process is based on the player’s form and the opposition they are going to face and he also praised Ishan Kishan for his exceptional performance under pressure against Pakistan in the Asia Cup opener.
“There will be a possibility, why not? As long as every one is available to play, everyone is fit to play, selection depends on the opposition, a player’s current form, and those who have performed under pressure because how you get those runs is also important.”
“Look at Ishan’s knock, for his confidence that was brilliant. Under pressure, batting at No. 5 for the first time and a left-hander which gives us another dimension. We consider all that factor in picking a playing XI,” Rohit Sharma said.
Ishan Kishan would be hard to ignore from playing 11 in the upcoming games. The southpaw has shown the versatility to bat at different positions and different stages of the innings for India in ODI cricket and would be key to the team’s success in the middle order.
We Are Happy To Have Two Options Who Are Ready To Fight For Being In The XI – Ajit Agarkar
Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector of Team India, expressed his happiness about having two excellent wicket-keeper batsmen in the squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. He also praised the performance of KL Rahul in the ODI format of the game.
“It is a good headache to have, I mean. Ishan played a lovely innings. He generally opens the innings. You would rather have that headache than deal with it than not. Here, you can say that KL Rahul’s record in ODI cricket is fantastic. There will be a conversation but at least you will have two options to pick from on a given day. We are happy to have two options who are ready to fight for being in the XI,” Ajit Agarkar said.
Indian wicket-keeper batsman KL Rahul is expected to make a comeback during the Super 4 stage of the tournament after passing his fitness test. The team will now face a challenge in deciding between Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul for the Super 4 stage in the Island Nation.
