India A took on Australia in the 2nd unofficial Test match at M Chidabram Stadium, Chennai. It is the first day of the second Test match as Virat Kohli is playing this match to get some match practice ahead of the Sri Lankan tour starting from August 12. The first unofficial Test match ended in a draw.

India A won the toss and elected to bat. Pujara and Abhinav Mukund opened the batting for India A. Both of the openers played cautiously before Pujara was dismissed by Stonis at the score of 11. Virat Kohli came at number 3 in the batting order. Both Kohli and Mukund steadied the innings with some good strokes before Mukund was dismissed for 15 leaving India A at 44 for 2. Virat Kohli was looking good for a big score but he was dismissed by Ashton Agar for 16. Soon after Sheryas Iyer was dismissed for 1 by O Keefe leaving India in big trouble at 53 for 4. India A at lunch were 56 for 4 with Karun Nair and Naman Ojha at the crease.

After lunch both batsmen looked to get set. They scored only 13 runs in the first few overs as Australian A bowlers did not give the India A batsmen to score freely. Karun Nair especially looked good as he was batting on 36 and Naman Ojha was batting on 3 from 63 balls. India A were 89 for 4. Naman Ojha and Karun Nair played sensibly and helped India A reach 101 for 4 at tea. Karun Nair was batting on 43 and Naman Ojha batting on 6. The Australian A bowlers did not allow the India A batsmen to score freely and gave away only 48 runs. 

In the third session, Karun Nair completed his fifty. Naman Ojha was dismissed for 10. Baba Aparjith came to join Karun Nair. Karun Nair was dismissed after scoring 50 and rest of batting failed. India A were bowled out for 135. Australia A began the chase of 136 and the openers began in confident scoring 43 for 0.
