Former India captain and coach, Anil Kumble has predicted the scoreline of the ODI series between Australia and India. The SCG in Sydney will host the first of the three games on Saturday, January 12th. Meanwhile, Anil Kumble is sure about India clinching the ODI’s, and finishing the tour on high. Though the T20Is got tied, the India National Cricket Team created history in Tests, winning it by 2-1 for the first time on Australian soil.
India starts as favourites – Kumble
Talking to News18, Anil Kumble said India would begin the series as the outright favourites. The veteran spinner further added because of the unavailability of the regulars in Australia team; they look weak. As Steven Smith and David Warner are already out on the sidelines, Australia rested Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood for India ODI’s.
Although India ranks second on the ICC Rankings for the teams in 50-over cricket; they still have a few players who haven’t played too much of One-Day games of late. Putting it up as his concern, Kumble added apart from the non-regular starters in the Indian team; the visitors will be the better side at the end of the series.
Australia’s form is a concern for them – Kumble
Meanwhile, Australia would not want to look at the records heading into the ODI series. In the past 13 games played, the men in yellow only found success in two.
“Yes, they do,” Kumble said to News18 when asked who will start at the favourites. “Obviously, Australia is a weaker side because the regular bowlers who play in the one-day format are not playing. But having said that if you look at seven or eight players who are joining the Indian ODI squad, they have hardly played any cricket.
“That is my only concerning factor I would look at. You know in terms of ability in terms of what India has done in the One Dayers in recent past, I think India should start favourites but for me the only concern is that the seven or eight players in the ODI squad are joining in when just tomorrow or day after just two days prior to the first match. And they have hardly played any matches leading up to the One Dayers. That’s a bit of a concern for me,” he added.
Prediction is tough here – Anil

Anil Kumble very rightly predicted the outcome of the Tests as 2-1 in favour of India, and it turned out to be so. However, when asked again about the prediction of the ODI series, Kumble roughly said 2-1 in favour of India.
“I am not sure. I think it will be a tough call for India. You know, for me. Yeah, India certainly the favourites. I would still look at 2-1 for India. But I think it is going to be very tough for India because the 7 or 8 players coming in the squad and they have hardly played cricket so that is my only thinking. I don’t have clarity of thought,” Kumble concluded.
