Perhaps, Cheteshwar Pujara has just come through one of the highest career-defining moments of his Test career. He has been the top run-scorer in the ongoing bilateral series and running at first place for the man of the series award. Meanwhile, the latest reports suggest that Cheteshwar Pujara set to get the elevation in the central contracts.

After the stunning show in the ongoing series, it is learnt that the Committee of Administrators chief Vinod Rai will bring up the idea with the chairman of selectors MSK Prasad. And also, with the team management headed by Ravi Shastri and the Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

Vinod Rai will discuss with respective officials:

If everything goes well, Cheteshwar Pujara will be rewarded with the highest category in the central contracts. The A+ category belongs to few players, who represent India, across the formats and perform well.

The latest category was introduced after MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri had a chat with the respective board. The new sections in the central contracts have settled the issues between the board and players regarding the pay structure.

”Pujara’s brilliant performance deserves recognition. The CoA chief will discuss with the team management and the chief selector. They will also check if the rule for all-format specialists in the top bracket can be relaxed.” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

“Pujara’s elevation to the top bracket could well be a message for youngsters. The performance in Test cricket will be given top priority,” the official said.

After the revised pay structure approved in 2018, A Plus category players get INR 7 crore while A category, to which Pujara currently belongs, comes with a pay cheque of INR 5 crore. The B and C category players get INR 3 and 1 crore respectively.

The A Plus category comprises skipper Kohli, limited overs deputy Rohit Sharma. And also, the all-format pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar and senior opener Shikhar Dhawan.

Other than Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, who is now a regular wicketkeeper for Indian National Cricket Team could also get the highest contract. All in all, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out.
