Rishabh Pant, who was only known for sledging in the ongoing tour between Australia and India, now, became the second leading run-scorer of the series. His incredible unbeaten 159* changed the course of the game at Sydney and also helped him bag quite a few records.
Rishabh Pant will score more centuries – Ricky Ponting
Ponting quoted that he is lucky to have Rishabh Pant in his side during the upcoming Indian Premier League. He added that the youngster has got the great match sense, which is a great asset of him to achieve certain heights.
The former right-handed batsman also compared Rishabh impact with MS Dhoni, who played quite a lot Test matches for India. Ponting believes that Rishah Pant will bag a lot of centuries before he retires from the game.
Further, he went on to term Rishabh Pant is the another Adam Gilchrist of the game. However, he mentioned that the Delhi lad needs to work on his wicketkeeping skills to come good for India in the future games.
“He (Rishabh Pant) is a real talent and an incredibly good ball striker. He has got a really good game sense as well. I have been lucky enough to coach him at Delhi (Capitals). He has already scored his second Test ton and a couple of the 90s to go with it. Look he is someone who could play a lot of Test cricket for India across formats. Pant is only 21 and is already into his ninth Test,” Ponting told cricket.com.au.
“He has got to do a bit of work on his keeping and he will also become a better batsman. We talk about MS Dhoni all the time and his impact on Indian cricket. He played a lot of Tests for India but made only six Test hundreds. This kid will make a lot more Test hundreds than that. We talk about him in the commentary box and he is sort of like another Adam Gilchrist,” he added.
Well, as Ricky Ponting said, Rishabh Pant has got ingredients in him to become the best in the game. He already surpassed quite a few records in his short stint at the highest level of the International Cricket.
The only area Rishabh Pant needs to work is with his wicketkeeping work. He dropped a dolly in the ongoing Test match when Mohammad Shami bowled a stunning outswinger to Australian opening batsman.
