Former India batsman, Gautam Gambhir calls Rohit Sharma the best white-ball player in the world. His statement came during Rohit’s inning at the SCG against Australia. In the first of the three ODI’s, Rohit Sharma slammed his 22nd ODI ton, scoring 133 off 129 balls, hitting six sixes and ten fours. Though he failed to help India go past the winning line, Rohit got lauded for his efforts on the crease.
Only Rohit could help us win… – Gautam
During India’s chase, they got jolted with three early wickets. Opener Shikhar Dhawan, captain Virat Kohli and Ambati Rayudu were sent back to the pavilion on single scores. At one stage, India’s scorecard read 4/3. However, it was Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni, who weathered the storm and didn’t lose their wicket for another 25 overs. MS, on the one hand, scored 51 off 96 balls, Rohit Sharma hit a hundred, but in a losing cause.
Even though history stated when Rohit Sharma had hit a hundred in Australia in ODI cricket, India has lost the game, but Gambhir didn’t think so. While doing the commentary, and when Rohit had crossed the 100-run mark and was looking good; Gambhir said only Rohit could help India win the game from here. Also, he mentioned Rohit Sharma as the best batsman in white-ball cricket at the moment.
“Absolutely fabulous from Rohit Sharma! He is probably the best white ball player in the world! If anyone can make India win it has to be Rohit Sharma”.
