The skipper of the Indian Cricket Team, Virat Kohli, on Wednesday, smashed another record as he became the fastest player to score 12000 ODI runs. The Indian Cricket Team took on Australia in the final ODI of the three-match series at the Manuka Oval on Wednesday. The Men in Blue won the toss and elected to bat first. The India National Cricket Team stepped on the field after having made four changes in the first eleven of the third ODI.
Youngster Shubman Gill and Shikhar Dhawan opened the innings for India and the pair looked good initially. However, Shikhar Dhawan departed early in the innings as team India suffered the first major blow. Gill departed soon and Indian skipper Virat Kohli kept the scoreboard ticking. Virat played another decent innings as he smashed yet another half-century and stayed constant on one end of the pitch.
Virat Kohli Becomes The Fastest Player To Score 12000 ODI Runs
The Indian captain reached the milestone of scoring the fastest 12,000 runs in ODI cricket as he achieved this feat only in his 242nd inning, beating Sachin Tendulkar, the God of Cricket’s record of 300 innings. Virat achieved this feat as he scored the 23rd run in his 63-run knock against Australia in the ongoing 3rd ODI.
Prior to this innings, Virat Kohli had scored 11,977 runs in ODI cricket and today, he has set another landmark while batting first after winning the toss in this game. Before this, master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar held this record as he smashed the same number of runs in 3oo ODI innings. Kohli became the sixth player after Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakarra, Sanath Jayasurya and Mahela Jayawardene to score 12,000 ODI runs.
The fastest man- Kohli made his ODI debut in 2008 against Sri Lanka and so far, he has smashed 43 ODI centuries in addition to the 59 fifties all this in a career span of 12 years. Though he has made the most numbers of half-centuries, his most recent half-century came in this very illustrious innings as he smashed 63 runs in the final ODI of the series.
Team India Reach A Decent Score After Quick Fire Knocks From Hardik Pandya And Ravindra Jadeja
Until this report was filed, team India posted a mammoth total in the first innings, thanks to quick-fire knocks from Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja, lower down the innings. Both the batsmen scored half-centuries as team India posted 302 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of 5 wickets. Australia, on the other hand, had a forgetful start as their skipper, Aaron Finch departed early in the innings.
