Australia vs India – 3rd Test, Day 1: Statistical Highlights

The Boxing Day Test started with neither of teams’ hold upper hand at end of Day 1. Australia managed to score 259 runs and India could pick up 5 wickets during the First Day’s play.

Here are the Statistical Highlights during 1st Day’s play:

–> Lokesh Rahul became India’s 284th Test Cap and Joe Burns became 441st Test Cap for Australia.

–> KL Rahul is the 4th Indian to make Test Debut at MCG. Other three are PK Sen (1948), K Rai Singh (1948) and Hrishikesh Kanitkar (1999). However, he is only the second Indian to make debut in a Boxing Day Test after H Kanitkar.

–> David Warner recorded his third Duck in Test career. The last time he got out for a Duck was also against India in March, 2013; 31 innings ago.

–> India had Australia wicket down without any runs on the board was in 2008, 27 innings ago.

–> First time since 2003, a Boxing Day test had a wicket before any runs were recorded. Last time happen during West Indies South Africa match at Durban in 2003 which was 21 Test matches ago.

–> Shane Watson scored his first Test fifty in 2014. His last fifty came in 2013, 9 test innings earlier; also in a Boxing Day Test at MCG.

–> MS Dhoni now has 250 catches behind stumps in Test cricket. 50 of those came against Australia.

–> An attendance of 69993 has been recorded during the first Day of the ongoing Boxing Day Test match at MCG which is the 2nd highest in the India’s Boxing Day Test attendance at MCG. The highest has been 70068 in 2011. Highest ever attendance on Boxing Day is 91112 in 2013.
