Mohammed Azharuddin, the one of Indian’s cricket’s most flamboyant batsmen has stated that in the recent history of India’s Test cricket Virender Sehwag can only be compared with Sir Vivian Richards.

Azharuddin, the former Indian captain, speaking exclusively over the telephone on Tuesday evening commented, “I am not going into the discussion about the technique between the two batsmen. There should not be any question over the technical strength of Richards when he used to bat. Sehwag might have less technical ability comparing to Sir Richards. But, Viru’s name should only come along with Sir Richards as Viru was also a game-changer in Test cricket as Sir Richards was.”

The former Indian skipper explained stating that Sehwag had always become a fascinating batsman for any captain. He said, “Any captain would love to have such an aggressive batsman like Viru in the opening line-up. Viru is such an attacking batsman that he would steer the run rate towards a comfortable zone to build up the innings.”

Azhar also had a lot of praise for Sehwag for having maintained the aggression against any bowler. The former Indian captain who has joined politics, clarified, “He could attack any bowler in the world. Even batting against a great bowler like McGrath I never saw him change his mentality and respect the bowler. I have seen him playing a lot of unbelievable innings over the years and it was only possible for him to hit with sheer power and timing.”
