Babar Azam Overtakes Javed Miandad To Achieve ODI Milestone

Pakistan’s rookie vice-captain Babar Azam has overtaken former skipper Javed Miandad to achieve another ODI landmark. Azam scored his 11th ODI century in the ongoing second ODI against Sri Lanka at Karachi. By doing so, the flamboyant batsman became the first Pakistan batsman to score 1000 runs in 2019.

Babar Azam became the fastest Pakistan to score 1000 runs in a calendar year by leapfrogging former captain Javed Miandad. Azam achieved the milestone in 19 innings whereas Javed Miandad had taken 21 innings to get to the personal landmark. The right-hander continued his good form going as he once played with class.

Meanwhile, former talisman Pakistan batsman Mohammed Yousuf and former captain and current coach Misbah-ul-Haq had scored 1000 runs in a calendar year in 23 innings each.
Babar Azam scored a fine knock of 115 runs from 105 balls to take his team to a par score of 305 runs after Sarfraz Ahmed won the toss and elected to bat first in the second ODI against Sri Lanka. The stylish batsman smashed eight fours and four sixes in his knock. Pakistan had a good start as Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq added 73 runs for the opening stand.
The hosts’ have put their noses in front as the visitors are tottering at 49-5. Pakistan’s southpaw seamer Usman Shinwari is on fire as he has scalped three wickets to push Sri Lanka on the backfoot.
The first One Day International was called off due to rain and the third ODI will be played at the same venue on 2nd October. The two teams will also play a three-match T20I series which will take place at Lahore with the first match scheduled on 5th October at Gaddafi Stadium.

Meanwhile, other batsmen who have crossed 1,000 runs mark in 2019 are Indian skipper Virat Kohli (1,288), Rohit Sharma (1,232), Aaron Finch (1,141) and Usman Khawaja (1,085).
