Bangladesh Test skipper Shakib Al Hasan believes it is important to play five proper bowlers in red-ball cricket to pick up 20 wickets in the match. Bangladesh defeated Ireland by 7 wickets in the one-off test match in the Mirpur stadium.Speaking to the media, after their complete home series victory over Ireland, Shakib said that is important to play more bowlers to pick up 20 wickets in the match, which can give them the best chance to win the game.

“When you want 20 wickets you need more bowlers as options, there’s no alternative, You choose fewer bowling options when you try to play defensive cricket and desire to draw the Test. When you want to win you will play with five-six bowling options and big teams do the same thing too,” Shakib Al Hasan said.

The Bangladesh skipper cited the example of the Indian team and the England team where they used to play with 5 to 6 proper bowlers in test cricket.

“Especially if you look at India and England, you will see them playing with five-six main bowlers and six batters,” he said.

Shakib Al Hasan also hailed Mehidy Hasan for his role in the team, as he is capable of batting at the number 7 position for the team and can chip in with the ball for Bangladesh in the team.

“Miraz (Mehidy) is capable to play at number seven and if he bats at number seven then we are having an extra bowling option which is good for our team. Everyone can rest and no pressure will create on them,” he added.
