Bangladesh Pulls Off a Miraculous Test Win Against Australia in Dhaka

A belter of a Test match where both teams fought till the end on a surface which has demons, ended in favor of Bangladesh who scripted a history by pulling off a miraculous win over Australia by 20 runs, in the first Test of the two-match series at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka.

Meanwhile, even former India captain – Sachin Tendulkar – could not hide his excitement as he tweeted:

After Australia had a mountain to climb, it was confident Pat Cummins (33* off 55), who showed some resilience to keep the spectators on the edge of their seats, but that was not enough as the Tigers roared in Dhaka when left-arm orthodox spinner Taijul Islam trapped injured Josh Hazlewood (0 off 10), in front of the stumps which further saw umpire Nigel Llong raising his dreaded finger to see the Tigers.

The pick of the bowlers in the second innings for Bangladesh was Shakib, who bagged five after conceding 85 runs in 28 overs. Islam claimed three wickets as off-spinner Mehedi Hasan picked two scalps.

The Kangaroos were bundled out for 244 in the second innings.

Holding all aces, the spinners had a pure intention to ask many questions to Australian batters which further has received the praise from all the quarters.

One of the riveting days of Test has witnessed Australia struggling against a side which rose among the ranks in the One-day International format, before becoming a stumbling block for the opposition in the subcontinent.

In the morning session, the hosts’ bowlers made a strong comeback after claiming five wickets as Australia added 90 runs on the board as they were chasing down the target of 265.

On the very first ball after lunch on day four, delighted left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan clean bowled Glenn Maxwell (14 off 25) when he opted for a shot on back foot, as the ball kept a bit low and dislodged the bails.

At lunch on Day four of the first Test, Australia was reeling at 199 for seven in 57 overs when Glenn Maxwell was batting on 14 off 24 deliveries and Pat Cummins of 2 off seven.

Earlier, David Warner broke all the shackles when he brought his significant hundred in the subcontinent. The explosive left-handed batsman Warner, who registered his 19th Test ton, smashed 16 boundaries and a solitary maximum while scoring 112 off 135 deliveries.

Australia in the second innings struggled when they lost two wickets by the score of 28 in 9.2 overs.

As Australia were on top on day three when they were 109 for two at the stumps, which further saw the visitor’s skipper Steven Smith and Warner forged a partnership of 130 for the third wicket.

However, the hosts’ spinners kept the side in the hunt after picking crucial wickets at regular intervals, as Shakib Al Hasan opened the floodgates before bagging 10-wicket haul in the Test.

Playing with such authority Australia was in total command, as two senior campaigners were going along nicely.

During the morning session, Australia lost Smith, Peter Handscomb, Matthew Wade and Ashton Agar.

In very first innings, Bangladesh was bundled out on 260, as Australia posted 217 in the first Test innings.

However, Australian bowlers made a strong comeback in the second innings when Bangladesh was restricted to 221.
