Michael Klinger’s unbeaten 105-run knock proved more then enough for Perth Scorchers as they defeated Aaron Finch led Melbourne Renegades by 35 runs to register their first win of BBL 04.

Chasing a target of 193, Melbourne Renegades batsmen failed to put crucial partnerships and lost wickets at regular intervals. Both their openers Aaron Finch and Matthew Wade got off to starts but failed to convert them into big one. Tom Cooper and Dwayne Bravo also got out cheaply. Callum Ferguson and Andre Russell were the only batsmen who showed intent but due to the shortage of partners at the other end, their innings lost meaning. Russell top-scored for Renegades with 43. Jason Behrendorff was the pick of the bowlers for Perth Scorchers with 2-16 in his 4 overs.

Earlier after winning the toss and electing to bat, Perth Scorchers had a brilliant opening partnership with Michael Klinger and Marcus Harris putting on 103 runs in 12 overs. Harris scored 53 before losing his wicket to offie Matthew Short. Michael Carberry came in at number three and shared a partnership of 45 runs with Klinger, before falling to Dwayne Bravo for 17. Klinger then took charge and smashed a few at the end to bring up his century. On the other hand, no bowler of Renegades managed to make an impact.

Michael Klinger was adjudged the man of the match for his unbeaten century.

Brief Scores: Perth Scorchers 192/3 (Klinger 105* Harris 53) defeat Melbourne Renegades 157/9 (Russell 43, Behrendorff 2-16) by 35 runs
