BBL 06: Twitter Reacts As Fiery Mitchell Johnson Leads Perth Scorchers In Final
Jan 24, 2017 at 5:25 PM
Former Australia fast bowler Mitchell Johnson ran riot as his 3 for three from four overs helped Perth Scorchers to thrash Melbourne Stars by 7 wickets in the first semi-final.
Playing his first BBL semi-final, the 35-year old began the carnage from the very first ball of the innings when the left-arm pacer sent back the in-form Rob Quiney. Three balls later, Johnson struck once again by dismissing Luke Wright for a nought to give his team the best possible start in the crucial tie. The Stars were just getting on the path to recovery and had scored 21 before Johnson removed Kevin Pietersen to push them completely on the backfoot. Five runs later, Jhye Richardson joined the party by dismissing Marcus Stoinis. The visitors were finding it tough to break the shackles against a disciplined bowling from Johnson and co. Seb Gotch (48) and David Hussey (26) tried provided some resistance as Melbourne Stars huffed and puffed to a paltry 136 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs.
In reply, the Scorchers chased down with utmost ease to qualify for their fifth BBL final. Daniel Worrall had revived his team’s hopes by dismissing Michael Klinger (7) cheaply but a 54-run partnership between Sam Whiteman (31) and Shaun Marsh (56*) set the tone for an easy chase. The Perth-based outfit eventually reached the target in the seventeenth over.
