BBL 2018-19: 7th Match, Hobart Hurricanes Vs Melbourne Stars – Report

Yet another match that saw a one-sided contest in Big Bash League (BBL 2018-19). Hobart Hurricanes thrashed Melbourne Stars pretty convincingly at home in the 7th match of the tournament. The skipper of Hobart Mathew Wade knocked a brilliant fifty while Jofra Archer has been the star with the ball.

Glenn Maxwell, Nick Larkin shines for Melbourne:

Earlier in the day, it was Hobart Hurricanes, who won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first. Justifying the toss decision, Jofra Archer started things brilliantly for Hobart. He knocked out both the openers for a cheap score to make things happen.

Firstly, he sent Travis Dean by taking a catch of his own bowling while Ben Dunk also failed in search of a scoring shot. Ben Dunk never looked comfortable in the middle while tackling Hobart fast bowlers.

However, Melbourne found the balance in the form of Nick Larkin and Glenn Maxwell,  who put on 91- run partnership for the third wicket. The duo batted brilliantly to stabilise the team in the middle overs.

Just when things looked all set, both the batsmen went back in quick succession to put Hobart in the driving seat. The strong death bowling of Hobart saw Melbourne Stars being restricted to just 155 on the board.

Mathew Wade knocks 52:

In reply, Mathew Wade, D’Arcy Short started things brilliantly by scoring 55-run partnership for the first wicket. However, Scott Boland gave the breakthrough by picking Short’s wicket, who was quickly followed by Alex Doolan.

Nonetheless, Ben McDormett stood tall with Wade to guide the team during the chase. Just when things looked all set for an 8-wicket victory, Melbourne sent both of them to make things interesting.

However, the experienced Georgy Bailey finished the things for Hobart Hurricanes. D’Arcy Short received the man of the match for his all-round performance.

Brief Scores:

Melbourne Stars – 155/5 (Glenn Maxwell 47, Archer 3/25, D Short 2/23)

Hobart Hurricanes – 156/4 (Mathew Wade 52, Sandeep Lamichchane – 3/24)
